quick off the starting line...

I suppose we were the first team to fully collaborate about our ideas on a Design.  We were somewhat "pushed" by an opportunity - Jill was attending a conference where she would be able to toss around an "idea" to get some feedback from an education (K-12) community.  So, we pressed ourselves and came up with an idea of an interactive DVD or CD-Rom that involved the steps of AR, that could be trained to various groups of folks within the educational realm (we were thinking upper management and administrative type folks, which would *hopefully* create a trickle-down effect).
We presented our ideas and then our thoughts about our meeting to Paul before we had even had our first "official" Design Strand meeting with him.  We caught him off guard, in his words.  Of course, he commended us on our pro-active and aggressive spirit but warned us to essentially get some knowledge and research behind our belts before going too much further with the idea.
He's probably right - he's done this a few times before ;-)
I love our team the best and feel we do have potential to come up with an actual, working product.  There is quite a bit of genius flowing among us five.
I guess our session basically ended with Paul asking us to check further into the Tim Brown book (think about the 'good, bad & ugly' in Tim's suggestions on Design) and contemplate our own Design of our product.
So I did....for a little while today.
I sent an email out to our group tonight that made a few suggestions...and it went something like this:
Hey guys & gals:
I was thinking tonight.
A suggestion?  Maybe instead of making an interactive CD-Rom or DVD, we could, instead, create an interactive website. There are a few "pluses" for going this route (I'm sure there's more, but  here's a start):
--more flexible for change, especially for accessibility between us all in different cities (plus no ONE person is inputing actually doing the creating...I'm sure that would be Sean? and it would give Carmel and I a chance to practice our web-design) & also keeping up with the quickly & ever-changing technology and market....
CD-Rom's and DVD's  might be harder to keep up with for changing and re-distributing...
we could even start clones from the website and re-vamp each for different markets and users in that market....just a "branching out" thought
--more accessible to the general population for which we decide the material should be aimed
--utilitarian, in the way that it might be a more familiar format to most "users" - lots of web surfers out there...
--easier data collection: where do people click most/least frequently? where do issues/problems arise? etc.
I'm sure there are plenty of downsides to this idea as well ---
So, Paul said we are supposed to be contemplating DESIGN of our product...and I was just throwing this out.
Please add in some things.
Thanks for hearing me,
julie
